A Living Gurdwara: Seva, Sangat and the Nishan Sahib

A Gurdwara is not only a building — it is a daily gathering of people in service. As the Col. Bhim Singh Foundation's Gurdwara Sahib on Hisar Road, Tohana takes shape, it is already becoming a centre of seva (selfless service) and sangat (community) for the surrounding villages.

The tall Nishan Sahib — the Sikh flag — now stands beside the complex, visible from across the fields. It marks the Gurdwara as a place of refuge, equality, and welcome to all, regardless of faith or background.

In keeping with the Sikh tradition, the langar hall will serve free meals to anyone who comes — rich or poor, of any community — seated together as equals. 'The truest worship is service,' says Vikram Bhim Singh. 'A Gurdwara is measured by how many it feeds and welcomes.'

Beneath a crystal chandelier, the darbar hall has hosted its first gatherings of sangat — a quiet sign of the life this space will hold for generations to come.
